Education in Eindhoven


Childcare in the Netherlands is for children from 0 up to and including 4 years old. To find out which child care centre is near to your home or just to know where they all are in Eindhoven you can go to the cityhall.

Pre-school play groups

This kind of education is for children from 2 up to and including 4 years old, this is an option if you do not want your child in day care for a full day. Usually these pre-schools have half day sessions, about 3 to 4 hours, with a minimum of 2 days a week.
The payment for pre-schools is based on your monthly salary and is subsidized by the government.

Pre-schools are especially for people who want to prepare their children for primary school and have them socialize with other children. The language used at pre-schools is Dutch, it depends on the teacher if there is the possibility of speaking English.

To find a pre-school in the area of Eindhoven you have to consult the yellow pages (by internet or phonebook), and search for "peuterspeelzaal".

Primary School

Primary school in the Netherlands is divided in 2 categories, grades 1 and 2 and 3 to 8.
Grades 1 and 2 are for children from 3 to 6 years. This is a preperation to the rest of primary school which starts with grade 3.
Grade 3 to 8 is for children from 5 to 12 years old, the language spoken in these schools is Dutch.

International School

After School Programmes

After school programmes are designed for children from 4 to 12 years old. These programmes aim to have a relaxing and and fun environment for children after school. These after school programmes are open during the school term and some are also available during school holidays.

Secundary Education

Secundary education for children in the Netherlands is for children aged 12 to 18. The age at which they have finished this depends on the level they attend their secundary education. Some schools offer bilingual education, but this is only on the higher levels like VWO.

Fontys hogeschool Eindhoven

Fontys University of Applied Sciences offers more than 200 Bachelor degree education programmes in the professional areas of technology, economics, social work, health care and teacher training. In addition, a wide range of Master programmes are offered in the following areas: management of IT, MSc of information systems, E-business, etc.

Technical University Eindhoven

The TU / e is best technical university in the Netherlands in the 2011 Guide to Universities. The TU / e represents the seventh consecutive year in the first place. Five courses are on the first place: Biomedical Engineering, Architecture, Industrial Design, Chemical Engineering and Applied Mathematics.

The following five bachelor's programs at TU / e are in second position: Industrial Engineering and Management, Computer Science, Technical Innovation Sciences, Applied Physics and Mechanical Engineering

Design Academy

Design Academy Eindhoven offers a Bachelor course in design, resulting in BDes and a Master course in design, resulting in MDes. Both courses are fully acknowledged and accredited by the NVAO (the Dutch Flemish accreditation body). They are both registered in the Central Register of Courses in Higher Education (CROHO) of the IBGroup (also known as the Dutch Executive office for Education - DUO). The Bachelor course is registered as BVormgeving (BDesign), with CROHO code 39111; the Master course is registered as MVormgeving (MDesign), with CROHO code 44759. Both courses are part of HBO/University of Applied Science education.
